The correspondence chess community of Ukraine has lost one of the key veteran members: Rudolf Kolesnikov has died on July 2nd, 2023.

Being educated in railway engineering and employed in Lviv railways (mostly as an expert in railway bridges), he was involved in various kinds of the over-the-board and correspondence chess activities. As a traditional postal player, arbiter and organizer, he was dealing with numerous regional, national and international tournaments. Rudolf Kolesnikov was awarded the ICCF International Master (1991) and International Arbiter (1999) titles. He was also Team Captain of Ukraine in several events including the 5th European Team Championship Final. Rudolf Kolesnikov was also awarded the FIDE International Arbiter title in 2001. Besides he has authored some books on correspondence chess in Ukraine as well as a number of publications in periodicals.
