We received the sad news that Cor van Wieringen has passed away at the age of 76 on Wednesday 19 October 2022. His health has not been what one could wish in recent years, but yet his death was unexpected for us and his family.

Cor has devoted himself to correspondence chess for many years: as a board member (1997-2011) of the NBC, of which he became a member in 1977, and as a tournament director and international arbiter, as a national delegate and as an active strong chess player (IM title) who played in the Dutch championship many times. He has also contributed to publications in Schaakschakeringen for many years and was responsible for the monthly publication of De Postduif for 20 years under his own management. After all, he was a regular sponsor for NBC's activities. At the General Members Meeting on April 9, 2022, he was nominated an honorary member of the NBC on the basis of these merits. We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace.
