It is with great regret that we inform you about the death of Stanisław Kania - the president of Polish CC Federation in 1971–1985 and the president of Polish Chess Federation in 1985-1988.
From 1973, he was a member of the Board of the Polish Chess Federation and held many responsible positions. For many years he was the president of Polish CC Federation (1971–1985) and the initiator of ICCF congresses in Poland (1973-Warsaw, 1983-Poznań).
In the years 1978–1984 he was the vice-president of the Polish Chess Federation, and in 1985 he was elected the president of the Polish Chess Federation and he held this position until 1988. In 1988 he was a delegate at the FIDE Congress in Thessaloniki. In the years 1978-1990 he was a FIDE delegate to the ICCF and acted for the cooperation of these organizations. In the years 1977–1982 he was the captain of the Polish team during the 8th ICCF Olympiad.
For many years of well-deserved activity in the ICCF structures, he was awarded the Bertl von Massow medals - in silver (1984) and in gold (1987), as well as decorated, among others, with the Golden Badge of Honor of the Polish Chess Federation (1976).
