Anniversaries of the Czech correspondence chess in 2021

In 2021, Czech correspondence chess players commemorate two rather significant anniversaries. The first of them is round and concerns an event from a relatively modern history, the second a half-round one, but we will go back in time to the previous century, i.e. the 19th century. This year it is exactly thirty years since the Correspondence Chess Association in the Czech Republic has been registered, an organization which, since its establishment in 1991, has always aimed to defend the interests of Czech correspondence chess players in the domestic and international field. Initially only as a national association under the Association of Correspondence Chess of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, after the division of the Czechoslovak Federal Republic on January 1, 1993 as a legal successor with its own legal personality and membership in the International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) and currently as a non-governmental and non-profit organization with the status of a registered association.

The second, historically probably even more significant event, is the launch of the first correspondence chess tournament in the Czech lands, the 135th anniversary of which we commemorate this year. In 1886, the tournament was announced through the Tábor magazine by then twenty-year-old Karel Traxler, who at that time was the editor of the chess section of the periodical, and in the same year he also took over its management. For this ground-breaking act, Karel Traxler, a patriotic priest and "master of Czech chess art" is, in exaggeration, described as the ancestor of Czech correspondent chess players.

On the occasion of the celebrations of the two anniversaries mentioned above and also in order to honour the memory of Karel Traxler, an excellent practical chess player and pioneer of correspondence chess in the Czech lands, we organize on the ICCF Webserver a promotional friendly match 4 Top ICCF GMs vs. 4 Top FIDE GMs see https://www.iccf.com/event?id=91233.
