ICCF Congress 2020-Change of Venue and Change of Dates
Tuesday, December 3, 2019: To ICCF Officials and National Delegates
As you are aware the Scottish Correspondence Chess Association ("SCCA") submitted a proposal to host the 2020 Congress in Glasgow from 16th to 20th August 2020, the venue being the Glasgow Hilton Hotel. Unfortunately, at the beginning of September the Glasgow Hilton announced that it planned to refurbish their Events area during the period of our Congress and withdrew their offer to host. Since that announcement Officials from SCCA have been exploring alternative venues.
SCCA is now proposing that the 2020 ICCF Congress be held at the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel, Clydebank, Glasgow (https://www.goldenjubileehotel.com). The Hotel is a dedicated Conference Hotel and is based approx. 8 miles from Glasgow City Centre but is readily accessible from Glasgow Airport and from a local train station. The Hotel is able to offer transport for delegates from the airport to the hotel and from the station (10-minute walk). Those arriving at Edinburgh Airport can get a train direct from the Airport to the local train station.
While the venue is very acceptable, they can only accommodate us from 23rd to 27th August 2020. Rates for bedrooms are more competitive than at the Hilton (Golden JubileeSingle B&B £92 per night and Double/Twin £107 per night). It should be noted that the new venue is on the outskirts of Glasgow, however, it remains the intention to develop a programme for accompanying persons, which will enable them to explore Glasgow.
Alternative hotel accommodation within manageable travel distance of the Congress venue has been identified. The five hotels, with accommodation costs, as at today's date are as follows: -
More up to-date pricing will be obtained in advance of issue of the Official Invitation to the 2020 Congress. SCCA apologises for these changes to the proposal submitted to Congress in Vilnius but hopes that ICCF Officials and National Delegates will continue to look forward to the 2020 Congress.
